If you have a garden space in your home, being able to sit out and enjoy the fresh air and sun can be incredible for your self care, health and wellness. So, if you’re wanting to make improvements to create a haven in your outdoor space this year, you’re in the right place. We’re here with some simple tips to help you transform your space, no matter your budget.
Have A Good Clear!
Our very first tip is a simple one, have a good clear of your garden! When our gardens are all overgrown, often it might feel really overwhelming and you might plan to do a lot more work than you actually need. So, before you do anything else, give the grass a good cut, take an electric chainsaw and trim down all of the overgrown bushes, pull out weeds, pressure wash your tiles and fences, put anything that has been left lying around into your garage and generally just spend time getting it looking nice again. From here, you’ll be able to more clearly see what actually needs significant work or what just needs something cosmetic! This can save you a lot of time and money in the long run, and although we understand that once you set your mind to something it’s tempting to get started straight away, but a good clear out is an important step.
Paint Your Fences
Now that you’ve got a nice clear space to start with, you should paint your fences. You’d be surprised at how much of a difference painting your fences makes, as it can completely brighten and freshen the space to bring your garden to life. Go for a more natural stain that is a similar colour to your wood just to remove any moss or green, or if you’re more maximalist, why not mix it up with a nice bright colour! You could always do a combination of both, with something a bit more colourful in one small section and then everywhere else more subtle. If you do go for a bright colour, just be very careful when painting, as you don’t want bright blue paint seeping through the gaps onto your neighbours side of the fence!
Add Flower Beds
Something else you should do is add flower beds. If you currently only have a small bed around the edge of your garden, consider bringing it out if you don’t need all of the lawn space. A deeper flower bed filled with plants (they can be really affordable) just brings your garden to life, as well as helping to create a thriving space for local wildlife. It’s easy to extend your flower beds and it gives you the opportunity to get creative. You could also look at adding a raised flower bed to feature your favourite flowers, or perhaps plant some herbs or fruit and vegetables. This is such a great way to expand your garden space and add stunning plants and flowers that can transform your garden.
Plant Native Plants and Wildflowers
A wonderful and affordable way to add stunning plants to your garden is to choose native plants and wildflowers. These are naturally very good for the environment, as they allow local wildlife to thrive and pollinators are able to do their jobs better. As a result, your garden will thrive. Have a look at the plants that are native to your area and enjoy watching the beautiful plants and wildlife grow.
Create A Seating Area
No garden is complete without a good seating area! Whether you already have a patio or decking area, or you’re looking to install one, focusing on some comfy seating for the garden will help you to make the most out of it. If you’re on a budget, have a look on online marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, as plenty of people will be selling great furniture. Just make sure that when you are making the purchase, you never send money to anyone before you’ve seen what you’re buying in person, as unfortunately scams are increasing. However, if you agree that payment will be made after seeing the item, then it’s a safer way to do things.

Re-Seed Your Lawn
Last but not least, if you’ve got gaps in your lawn, then re-seeding can make a huge difference. Sew seeds either in the Spring or early autumn, focusing on areas where there are gaps. This will give it the best chance of growing well as the soil is warm and there’s plenty of moisture. Remember to water at least twice a day until the seeds have germinated, which can take between a week and a month, then after that you can slow down the watering unless it’s very hot and dry.
Final Thoughts
From getting out a lawn mower and electric chainsaw to have a good clear out through to reseeding your lawn, there are so many things you can do to create a garden haven to enjoy this summer!
