Pregnancy is a huge step in life but also an exciting and demanding time of bodily changes. While your body was made during pregnancy, that doesn’t always mean that it’s easy, and in fact, it can be the hardest thing women have to go through because of the emotional, physical and mental trauma it can place on you.
Not every moment of the day you want to leave the house pregnant because it’s either too hot, too cold, or you just need some well-deserved rest as a soon-to-be mother.
Support is what we need during this period, and for some mothers, it requires more than just verbal reassurance or getting us our cravings. Real physical and emotional support is what will help ease a pregnancy that might not be the easiest.
Massage
During your third trimester, you might begin to swell and retain a lot more water around your body. It’s said that a massage during this period of pregnancy is an absolute must. It can relieve tension, support the lymphatic system, and also is just a well-needed downtime.

Dates
If you want to not only get 1 of your 5 a day in but also soften your cervix and pelvic floor muscles for your birth, then dates are a must. It’s said to take full advantage of dates during your third trimester and eat 3 a day for a couple of weeks, and in the last month to eat about 7 a day. While that might sound excessive, it’s linked to helping women not tear but also is a great way to ease any form of pushing you might have to do.
Core Exercises
Pregnancy, especially during your third trimester, can cause an ab separation. It’s important to ensure that you are maintaining even the simplest core exercises to prevent this from causing issues in your postpartum.
This can typically resolve itself within the first 12 weeks of postpartum. You should practise good posture, gentle movements, and deep breathing exercises during and after pregnancy to restore your abdominal muscles and structure and prevent a weak pelvic floor.
Salty Things
When you are nauseous, it’s hard to get all the fluids in for the day, especially if you do find yourself throwing up from morning sickness. While this might seem counterproductive, it is a great way to settle your stomach and encourage yourself to drink more fluid by tricking the body into needing it.
Salty food, such as crackers, nuts and other starchy foods, can encourage and help you drink more fluids throughout the day.
Dim The Lights
Nausea and vomiting can be brought on through harsh lighting, so it’s a great idea to invest in some flattering lamps and turn down the brightness of your phone, work computer and other screens that you are in contact with to prevent discomfort when it is easily avoidable.
Nice Smells Only
If you can support your pregnant friend or wife in any way, it’s ensure that all unpleasant smells are removed immediately. Even something that wouldn’t have bothered them before is now something that can just trigger nausea and the gag reflex. It’s the most horrible feeling, constantly being on the verge of being sick or gagging.
Therefore, little things like ensuring there is always a cleaned-out fridge, a lemon in there to capture the smells, clearing out the cat litter, and picking up the dog poo. All of which isn’t the most pleasant smell. They need support from their friends and family to take over these little areas to help improve the current situation they are facing.
Prune Juice or Flax Seeds
Constipation is unfortunately something pregnant women face as a result of the baby moving around their organs, but also their system itself slows down to ensure you and the baby have more time to absorb food nutrients. While logical, it can still be a huge inconvenience to mothers. While over-the-counter medication doesn’t exist for this, and some mothers prefer to stick to natural remedies, we have two for you to try.
Prune juice is linked to helping constipation, while fibre also helps, so pairing this alongside fibre-rich food like Weetabix and so forth is a great breakfast option to help get things moving. Flax seeds are linked to being an amazing source for hair and skin health, and improving your gut health to get everything moving more efficiently. This could be a midday snack to help.
If none of the above seemed to be working for you, ensure that you are getting enough movement; daily walks, and light exercises will help regulate your systems and encourage your bodily functions to get things moving. This doesn’t need to be hard workouts just enough steps and mobility to keep your body healthy.
Final Thoughts
At-home remedies come in many shapes and forms; whether it’s an at-home facial in Cheshire or a just simply keeping the lights dim around you, there is something you can do to make this stage as easy as possible.
