A positive mindset every day isn’t the easiest of things to achieve, especially when the weight of the world can impact your mood. We constantly need to be our own best friends and pick ourselves back up when we need it. Relying on others for your happiness is a step backwards in improving your overall mental health and can be the reason why your mental well-being is having such fluctuation throughout the day.
It’s normal to be affected by others; that is what makes us human and it’s a blessing but also when it’s negative, it’s a curse. I have found that doing a range of different things that are just for me, myself and I can improve my mental health and get me out of that self-deprecating mindset that just causes my anxiety and overall mood to decline.
Sharing what brings me joy in these moments and sets me back into reality is what I find very important in today’s modern age, where we are all over social media and taking these real and honest moments away from ourselves. So I hope in times of need you can remember a little tips I’ve shared with you today!
Take Yourself To Lunch
As an anxious person, it can be hard to ever want to be alone, especially in public and I really struggled with this and didn’t realise how bad it was till university, where I was forced to go do things on my own. It did a lot of good for me to just listen to what I wanted to do and do it rather than depending on someone else to go do it with me.
If you feel like eating and want some solace, go and do it; honestly, just do it. No one cares that you are on your own and they definitely will not remember the fact you were. When you treat yourself to some alone time and good food, it can help you realise that life isn’t too serious and treat yourself with the same effort and kindness you would treat someone else.

Have a Bath
Not in your smell kind of way, but being submerged in a bubble bath with candles lit, music on and all of your skincare lined up and ready for you. It’s like pressing restart on a day and allows you to just submerge yourself into self-care and while this can be hard for some people who might be feeling more down, I always see a hot bath like a warm hug you are giving yourself and is just needed sometimes to detox and destress.
Buy Yourself Something
Whenever I’m feeling a little down, uninspired or just unhappy with some elements in my life, I find treating myself to a gift always gives me something to look forward to but also cheers me up because I deserve nice things, and I tend to go for things like jewellery or clothes that give me a real excitement to get dressed and style my clothes again.
Do Something Different
Getting into a slump and not knowing where it’s coming from—I usually find it when you are bored or unstimulated by life. I find that pushing yourself to do something new can really help you have a taste for life again and make you feel better about everything. Whether you hike a new route, join a new class, or go to a random town you saw on TikTok, it’s the little things that stay with us, so go out and explore for some well-deserved mental stimulation and fun new experiences.
Turn Off Your Phone
Immerse yourself with reality and get rid of your phone for a couple of hours. Getting into a deep hole with social media like doom scrolling can make the hours fly by and then all you are left with is guilt and the evening to do a bunch of tasks you don’t want to do now.
Turning your phone off forces you to be stimulated with things you’ve been putting off for months, such as getting finished with a couple of home projects and so forth. These tasks, while they might seem boring, are extremely rewarding.
Move Your Body
During stressful times I find that running or even weight training can be a huge stress reliever but then also makes me feel better about my day when I have been active. It’s a great way to clear your mind and focus on your breathing and other important things while ignoring the noise from the world around you. Getting your anger out needs to come in forms that aren’t projected at other people, so find something you can fuel it into, whether it be sports, classes, or a nice long walk.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to improving your mental health, there are little things that you can do to help and can be done on the same day! Whether you want to buy some Arabic bracelets or you want to go on a walk, just listen to your body and stop the self-deprecating behaviour.
